2008 Pike Halloween Lodge Party

This Halloween marks the annual occurrence of the highly anticipated Pike Lodge Halloween Party. Each year the new members of Epsilon Iota get to decorate the Lodge anyway that they please, with money they have saved up over their time as being a Pike new member. Along with the decorations, the lodge also has some paranormal history. The spirit of a young girl named Jessica is believed to haunt the vicinity of the lodge property. With lots of spine-chilling occurrences and paranormal activity experienced by many brothers of the chapter, it will no doubt add a blood-curdling atmosphere of the celebration!

If you want to read more about the Haunted Pike Lodge and the spirit of Jessica enter the link below into your address bar:

UNIVERSITY NEWSLETTER November 2007

DANIEL RIORDAN TRIVIA NIGHT

_____________________________________________________________

On June 23, 2007, Lt. Daniel P. Riordan, a 2001 graduate of St. John Vianney High School, was killed while courageously serving our country in Iraq. To honor Dan and his dedication to faith and education, the Lt. Daniel P. Riordan Scholarship Fund at Vianney High School has been established. The scholarship will be given to a student with financial need and who represents the qualities of faith, honor, and service.

A Trivia Night benefiting the scholarship fund was held on Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Vianney. Thirteen men from Epsilon Iota attended this event and donated $250 to the Lt. Daniel P. Riordan scholarship fund. The event will be held annually to raise money for the scholarship fund and to remember our fallen hero. The trivia night was an incredible opportunity for us to play a major role in establishing the Lt. Daniel P. Riordan Scholarship Fund. “Lt. Dan” was a man who loved his family, his God, and his country. His faith gave him the strength necessary for battle; this faith was cultivated and strengthened by the faculty and staff of Vianney High School.

COMMUNITY SERVICE EVENTS

Pi Kappa Alpha participated in many community service events this semester. One of these events has become a tradition in Epsilon Iota. This was the 6th Annual Homeless in the Park charity event on October 10th and 11th. 100% of the Pi Kappa Alpha active chapter attended this event in Capaha Park, which ran from 8:00 Saturday morning to 8:00 Sunday morning. Brothers attended morning or afternoon shifts and all attended the overnight stay in the park. The men of Pi Kappa Alpha invited the Alpha Chi Omega sorority to attend this community service event and they responded with a substantial amount of support for the cause. Together we raised money and collected clothes, food and donations for the local Salvation Army.

On Tuesday, November 6, twelve men from Epsilon Iota made a difference in the lives of children by joining the Up ‘til Dawn team. By volunteering for Up ‘til Dawn, we became a part of the campus-wide effort to support the life-saving treatment and research at St. Jude Children’s Hospital. We participated in a letter campaign fundraiser in which we filled out almost 250 letters and mailed them off to potential donors.

PIKELINE

A PUBLICATION OF THE EPSILON IOTA CHAPTER OF PI KAPPA ALPHA

UNIVERSITY NEWSLETTER September 2007

River City Music Festival

Five members of Pi Kappa Alpha volunteered 38 hours of there time as security guards on September 7th for the 11th annual River City Music Festival. Their duties included watching over three outdoor concert stages as well as the band equipment. Our chapter has 5 major Community Service events planned for this semester alone.

Kickin’ It with Alpha Delta Pi

Pi Kappa Alpha participated in the Kickin’ It with Alpha Delta Pi philanthropy on September 21st. The chapter donated money to the Ronald McDonald House charity fund, and received 1st place in the annual soccer tournament.

SEMO Football

On September 12th 30 men of Pi Kappa Alpha attended the Coach’s Show at Port Cape Lounge. We pride ourselves on the support that we give to SEMO athletics.

A SUCCESSFUL FALL RUSH

On August 16th men from the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity were stationed at each dormitory to help move new students into their dorm rooms. 50 members of our chapter worked shifts spanning from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. The next day 40 of our members attended the Great Ice Cream Pig Out to get better acquainted with the new students here at SEMO. Pi Kappa Alpha sponsored a booth at the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Back Picnic at the Student Recreation Center on August 19th, where we were able to welcome new students and answer any questions that they had on Greek life at SEMO.

After three days of fun-filled rush events, on August 29th Pi Kappa Alpha accepted 30 bids, and 30 new members into our chapter. We are excited about the quality of men that we have invited into our chapter and find this fall semester’s rush to be a successful one.

NEW MEMBER DEVELOPMENT

Pi Kappa Alpha has begun molding our new members into the new leaders here on the campus of Southeast Missouri State University. We took a weekend new member retreat on September 28-29 where the new members developed a better understanding of becoming an active member of Pi Kappa Alpha. At the retreat, the new member class developed goals and elected an executive board of their own. We find this to be a key aspect of new member development, so that they will know and understand the workings of our chapter once initiated into Pi Kappa Alpha. 100% of the new member class is involved on campus at SEMO. We have emphasized the importance of campus involvement not only for new members, but for our active chapter as well.
